Goaltender Sebastian Cossa continues to show why the Detroit Red Wings drafted him in the first round in 2021. He turned in a 36-save performance to help the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 4-3 overtime triumph against the Saint John Sea Dogs at the Memorial. Cup.
Edmonton’s Jaxson Wiebe was named the game’s No. 1 star after completing his hat trick with the OT winner. Cossa was named the No. 3 stars of the game. He was particularly sharp in the latter stages of the game.
“After the first intermission we talked about our game and weren’t very happy with it,” Cossa said on CHL TV. “We came out in the second and third and showed a little better for ourselves. Definitely took away their chances. ”
The Oil Kings are now 1-1 in the tournament. They finish up the round-robin segment of the Memorial Cup Friday against the OHL champion Hamilton Bulldogs. The Bulldogs and Oil Kings are co-favorites in the tournament.
Cossa will play for the Grand Rapids Griffins next season as he starts his climb to the NHL.
